Are You Worried About Flat Feet On Your Children?

Very often, children’s foot and ankle problems are apparent at birth, although mobility issues may not develop until your child starts walking.

Your child’s feet and arches directly impact their overall alignment. If left untreated, they could be more likely to have trouble walking and participating in sports, develop ingrown toenails, have poor posture, and much more.

You especially need to see a professional for flat feet treatment because children’s feet heal in many different ways than those of adults. You need to be certain that treatment and aftercare won’t affect your child’s growth.

If flat feet persist in older children, professional flat feet treatment will likely be required in order to prevent severe pain when walking and potential disability.

Flat feet can be caused by inherited disorders, juvenile arthritis, disorders in the connective tissue, childhood obesity, or damage to the ligaments and muscles.

Even knock knees, abnormal anatomy, and fusions within foot bones can cause flat feet.

Every day, Podiatrists at Pioneer Podiatry treat many children with foot and leg pain. Foot and leg pain in children is NOT NORMAL and in almost every case it can be fixed.

So Why Does My Heel Hurt?

Heel pain can be an incredibly frustrating condition. Pain in the heel can dramatically reduce your ability to walk and function. Simple tasks like keeping up with the kids can get harder. Standing on your feet at work, going for a walk and exercising can be near impossible.

Heel pain can really affect your quality of life and really get you down.

Pain in the heel is usually there getting out of bed in the morning.  Being on your feet for long hours at work or at home can make it worse. You may also experience pain after sitting down for a while and then standing again.

Heel pain has many causes. Heel pain is generally the result of faulty biomechanics (walking gait abnormalities) that place too much stress on the heel bone and the soft tissues that attach to it. The stress may also result from injury, or a bruise incurred while walking, running, or jumping on hard surfaces; wearing poorly constructed footwear (such as flimsy flip-flops); or being overweight.

Is Your Footwear Uncomfortable?

It is estimated that in an average lifetime, we use our feet to walk the equivalent of five times the circumference of the earth. Yet we rarely give our feet -- and our footwear -- much attention beyond aesthetics.

Shoes may be in fact the most important part of an individual’s attire, as no other article of clothing must fit so precisely and perform critical mechanical functions such as transferring body weight.

In addition, falls - which can have dire consequences in the elderly - are most frequent among those with poorly fitting footwear.

These 10 Problems Can Happen Because of Tight Shoes

Dressing your best on occasions is definitely on everyone’s checklist. However, going through all those tough combinations of dress and shoes is not easy. It becomes even more painful when the shoes or heels cramp your feet and you feel uncomfortable in your footwear. This feeling is not only painful but can also give rise to major foot problems.

Switch up your footwear!

Alternate your shoes daily. Avoid wearing the same shoes for more than four to five days. Rotating your footwear reduces the overuse of a muscle group or set of joints.

You only get one set of feet in this lifetime, it’s important to take care of them properly. The sacrifice of wearing the latest fad in shoe wear is not worth the health risk of permanent foot deformities with accompanying knee or hip pain.”
