Diabetic Risk Assessment
At Pioneer Podiatry, we look after hundreds of patients each year with diabetes, and we pride ourselves on the best standards of care for preventing and treating the complex issues that can happen with this chronic condition. We partner with many General Practitioners using Team Care Arrangements to provide annual diabetic foot risk screening and additional services and procedures as required. It is best to ask your GP for a Referral for Allied Health Services under a TCA, so we can access Medicare funding for diabetic foot screening.
Phil and Jeremy chat about what can go wrong with your feet, and how to detect problems early and prevent serious injury or illness.
Our Diabetic Foot Risk Assessments:
Full lower limb vascular assessment (arterial blood flow) using the latest doppler ultrasound technology, including ABPI as indicated
Full neurological assessment to check for nerve damage, including numbness and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy
Determination of Foot Risk Status, and advice and education to help you prevent injuries
Footwear advice, prescription, and fitting and supply as necessary. We are stockists of Dr Comfort diabetic footwear
A summarised Diabetic Foot Risk Assessment Plan in plain english for each patient, so you know how your feet are, and how to stay out of trouble and prevent serious foot problems
We can also provide routine foot care for patients with diabetes, however this sometimes requires an additional appointment depending on time available.
We provide all assessments as clinically relevant and to standards of best practice using the NICE guideline [NG19], which recommends annual comprehensive foot assessments for all patients with diabetes.
